Let us explain...

There is no excuse for any child to get severely malnourished. Waiting until a child’s organs are shutting down, their skin is peeling, and they have no energy to sit up, laugh, or play is unacceptable. Yet, this is exactly how we currently treat childhood malnutrition globally.
When war or natural disaster strikes, first responders rush to the scene with food, water, and shelter. Within sixty days of a conflict or emergency, displaced children begin a dangerous decline—from healthy to hungry, to moderately malnourished, and finally, to severely malnourished. Children under five are the most vulnerable, as they are susceptible to other diseases and suffer immediate consequences: stunted growth, weakened immune systems, cognitive impairments, and increased susceptibility to infections. By the time treatment arrives in the form of Plumpy'Nut, a fortified food, these children are clinging to life with their final breaths, teetering on the brink of death. This is like waiting for a house to be on fire before installing smoke alarms.
Prevent Malnutrition NOW
We have the tools we need for both mothers and their babies to avoid malnutrition in the first place

Studies show that nutrient-fortified products for pregnant mothers can reduce child mortality rates from malnutrition by 27%. Focusing on prevention also lowers the cost long term for treatment.
Must we wait another decade to collectively agree that treating a child sooner is better for the child, not to mention more economical and ethical? Does anyone truly believe we should turn away a child because they aren't "malnourished enough" to meet treatment criteria?
We feel the urgency of every passing minute as we hesitate to make bold, logical decisions that could save lives.
About the Campaign
Putting prevention first, not last
Edesia Nutrition, a non-profit social enterprise with the mission to end malnutrition, is kickstarting a campaign to urge decision makers to prioritize prevention and raise funding to produce prevention products that will end children’s suffering.

"Don't save lives " isn't just a provocative statement; it's a call to action.

For the past 17 years, Edesia been fighting malnutrition by producing Plumpy’Nut, a fortified food that saves the lives of severely malnourished children. We have reached over 25 million children in 65 countries with our life-saving fortified food packets.

But as the number of children suffering from malnutrition continuing to grow, it's clear that to truly end malnutrition once and for all we have to prevent malnutrition now, not wait until a child is about to die to intervene.

Together we can prevent malnutrition now
